According to Japan Tourism Statistics, visitor arrivals in Japan have gone up to about 37 million in 2024, with 27.6% increase of the year 2023. Of those considerable number of foreign tourists surging into Japan, Oita prefecture, located south part of Japan, close to the 5th or 6th biggest city Fukuoka prefecture, welcomed, in 2024, more than 5 million tourists from all over the world, with 0.6% increase of the previous year.

Hot springs

Beppu Hot Springs
Hot springs in Beppy, Oita prefecture, have its unique features with the tremenodus numbers and varieties. A special hot spring tour, called “Jigoku Meguri,” gives you a chance to go through different kinds of hot springs origins. Sand hot springs, called “Suna Yu,” provides you with priceless relaxing time. After experiencing Beppu’s “Onsen” cultures, traditional foods and shops will never get you bored.

“Umi Tamago”, which is one of the biggest aquariums in Kyushu area, exhibits a great number of tanks with many different kinds of fish and ocean animals. Access from Tokyo takes you less than two hours by plane. There is a direct flight from Tokyo to Oita, vice versa. If you would like to enjoy train trip, Shinkansen (Bullet Train) from Tokyo to Fukuoka (4 hours or so) would be a good idea to enjoy the view before you get to Oita from Fukuoka, with another 2 hours by train.
It seems to many foreign tourists that coming down to Kyushu area is a bit hard work to do because of its location and most likely not as much information to be shared as the other big cities have. However, once you visit here, you will love this place and definitely come back within a few years. Oita has its attraction itself and other prefectures near ours have many more sites for you to step into. Enjoy the great nature view and super warmhearted residents here in Kyushu and it won’t take a blink for you to take more of your friends/family members next time.
